Dancing With Change: Teaching and Learning in the Future
Dr. Patricia Keir, College of DuPage
What will the college of the future be like? Certainly the explosion of new technologies which is already drastically changing our everyday life can be expected to radically transform what and how people learn in the future. It's possible that the traditional classroom won't exist at all. What will take its place?
This presenter will describe some current trends and technologies already impacting education as we know it and also describe some innovative programs and class delivery formats her institution is investing in now - to be ready when the future arrives.

Regulations and Over-Regulating
Paul Burg, Spectrum Chemical
Industry today, especially the chemical industry, is plagued with regulations that often are necessary, but sometimes are the result of over-reacting. This tremendous increase in regulation has caused prices in the chemical industry to rise more than those of any other commodity in the US. The government has further encouraged claims that are going into the courts, many of which are not ligitimate. The government is thus not promoting excellence, but rather is promoting shortcuts, such as cheating, in all areas. A collective determination and debate is necessary to stop this nonsense. The speaker will discuss his proposal regarding MSDS's and his desire to see the MSDS become a valuable tool for the users and handlers of chemicals. He will propose that MSDS's become uniform for the entire industry and be issued by an "information clearinghouse" representing both manufactures and users of chemicals.

His presentation will emphasize the importance of a guiding vision, commitment, attitude and integrity. "Leaders take control of their own lives," he says. "They inspire others, hold themselves accountable and get the right things done."

Indoor Air Quality for the Common Man
Dr. Demetrius Moschindreas/IIT
The presenter has made the complex physics of indoor air quality problems easy to understand for anybody who works in a non-industrial setting. A new appraoch incorporates internal surveys, sophisticated qualitative technology, and simple common sense smelling relationships into a final air quality status report that makes sense! Easy-to-read bar graphs are used to compare internal building air quality along with different buildings used for similar purposes as your own. Not only is upper management amenable to his conclusions, but all workers feel they have contributed to improving the on-site air quality. Credibility is the key word for this innovator.
