Scientific Materials Managers of the Year 2001

Lori Keen began her career at Calvin College in 1985 starting as a lab steward for the Biology Department. Due to expansion of the department, Lori's duties and title also expanded. Lori now holds the position of Biology Lab Services Manager. Before a specialist was hired to the position of OSHA Lab Safety Coordinator, Lori also assumed those responsibilities. Lori continues to monitor safety compliance for the Biology department along with Bloodborne Pathogen training.

Lori join NAOSMM in 1990 and within three years she was elected to the position of secretary on the executive board. She held that position from 1993 to 1997 and then went on to the position of vice-president for two years. Lori serves as Chair of the Constitution/By-Laws committee and co-chair of the Certification committee. Lori was also a major contributor of the 2001 Host committee.

Jeff Your started at John Carroll University in 1991 as Stockroom Manager. Jeff initiated a system of computerized inventory and ordering system. Jeff coordinates the department budget and has worked closely with the vendors to control spending. Additionally, Jeff heads the Hazardous Materials Office for John Carroll. Jeff developed the Chemical Hygiene Plan and coordinates safety checks, waste disposal, and presents OSHA training for the university.

Jeff became a member of NAOSMM in 1993. Jeff served as treasurer for 1997 to 2001. He received certification in 1998 and lifetime certification in 2000. Jeff also serves on the Membership and Internet committees. Recently Jeff acquired his MBA from John Carroll and was honored as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

Jerry Clark of Kimble-Kontes presented Lori and Jeff with beautiful Frabel glass sculptures in recognition of their achievements.

NAOSMM Seminar and Trade Show Grants

Through the generosity of our vendors, thirteen members received travel funds. The advertisements that the vendors placed in the Newsline provided money for this fund.

Nalge Nunc Training Fund Awards

In 1987, Nalge Company established a fund to assist NAOSMM members to attend the Annual Conference and Trade Show. The company has since changed its name to Nalge Nunc International yet the tradition of assisting members, especially first-time attendees, has not changed. Many thanks to Nalge Nunc International for its generosity.
