Mary Ann Stoll Idaho State University
The Outstanding Scientific Materials Manager of the Year Award was created by NAOSMM in 1983 to honor managers who have distinguished themselves on the job and in their service to NAOSMM. These select few have demonstrated the highest level of dedication and commitment to their employers, customers, students, communities and NAOSMM.
Mary Ann Stoll is the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Manager of the Year Award. Mary Ann began working at Idaho State University in 1986 as Laboratory Materials Supervisor at the College of Pharmacy. In 1999, Mary Ann transferred to the Biological Sciences Department assuming the position of Biology Stockroom Supervisor. This position utilized her degree to a greater extent and expanded her laboratory interest. The department today consists of 46 full-time faculty, and over 900 undergraduates.
The list of Mary Ann's work in NAOSMM is long, but worth noting. Mary Ann joined in 1987 and has been at every conference except one, 2002. In 1990, joined the program committee and served until 1992 when she joined the Hospitality Committee. She became Hospitality Chair in 1994 and served in that capacity until 1995. In 1994, she became a Certified Scientific Material Manager, and achieved Lifetime Certification in 1997. Her experience on the Program Committee was again utilized in 1996 when she became Program Chair. She served as chair until 1998. Mary Ann officially became part of the Newsline staff in 1999, but she had contributed many articles throughout her NAOSMM tenure. She took over as NAOSMM Historian in 2001 and remains in that position, which has now become part of the Internet Committee. Mary Ann served on the Host Committee for the 2005 Conference in Reno, Nevada. Mary Ann, again, served on the Program Committee in 2006 and 2007 as Co-Chair. Finally, she will be hosting next year's conference in Boise, Idaho.
Mary Ann's dedication to NAOSMM has been tremendous and it is hoped that members, new and old, will attempt to achieve this inspiring example. THANK YOU Mary Ann for everything.
